Reliable operation, no malfunctions, protection of people and the environment: under the present conditions of increasingly tight time cycles in industrial production, HVAC engineering plays a decisive role. The requirements placed here are challenging, specific, and complex on many levels – especially since each industrial sector is unique. Plant systems for process climate control that can be effectively integrated into the many and various production processes involved are accordingly necessary. The slightest deviations from the required ambient conditions can impair the quality of a product or of a process. At the worst, shutdowns and expensive down times are the results. To prevent these consequences, industrial companies need to rely on plant facilities engineering that ensure the necessary ambient climate at all times.

In the pharmaceuticals and medical industries, for example, the field of indoor air hygiene has absolute priority. During such sensitive production processes, the greatest in purity and the observance of exact ambient parameters must by all means be assured. If not, the adulteration of medication products and, in turn, the occurrence of incalculable risks are possible.

In processing of foods and beverages, to take another example, water plays an essential role. Short intervals between intensive cleaning procedures lead to extremely great humidity on the production floor: a situation that must as quickly as possible be returned to permissible levels. In addition, it is crucial that dangerous substances cannot affect the health or safety of plant staff. Here as well, the risks are great if climate control does not flawlessly function as needed.

It is therefore not only essential to provide effective climate control for processes and products, but also to create a working climate that observes the legally stipulated guidelines for workplace conditions. It is important here to consider that many production ship floors are large and high, which requires movement of large volumes of air. To provide climate control for these areas, and to furnish heat and cooling as efficiently as possible, they require an intelligent climate-control concept. This concept must also include adjoining ancillary rooms: for example, social-amenities rooms and washrooms.

For the climate control of processes, products, and production facilities, Menerga has developed special systems that ensure a high volume of air flow. These systems can implement high levels of heat transfer with only very slight energy consumption for cooling – by exploiting the cooling potential of the outdoor air, while the heat reclaim drastically reduces heating costs. An integrated heat-exchanger cleaning system – which satisfies the stipulations of VDI 3803 placed on system cleanability – as well as an extensive maintenance and service program, sustainably ensure the strict hygienic requirements placed. On demand, the fully automatic control system mixes dry outdoor air with indoor air and, during the warm half of the year, activates any already existing dryer units.

If, for example, plant operations cease and production is shut down overnight or on weekends, factory rooms are economically kept to an acceptable temperature level in pure recirculation mode. Before the plant resumes work, the climate-control systems automatically mix the required outdoor air volume with indoor air to achieve the required air quality on the production floor. In addition, the Menerga systems regulate the variable air flow volumes to match the actual number of staff working at any one time in the plant.
