Frankfurt / Mülheim a. d. Ruhr – At light + building 2008 in Frankfurt the European Commission conferred the 2008 Annual GreenBuilding Award on Menerga d.o.o. of Slovenia for outstanding services in this field. Acting for the company Danijel Murši?, Director General of Menerga Slovenia, accepted the award from the hands of the Programme Manager Paolo Bertoldi (EC/JRG – European Commission, Joint Research Centre). “By conferring this year’s Annual GreenBuilding Award on Menerga d.o.o. we express our acknowledgement of their outstanding, exemplary planning and equipment of buildings and their implementation of GreenBuilding principles in new projects,” explained Bertoldi (EC/JRG – European Commission, Joint Research Centre) during the award ceremony on 10 April before the IEECB Congress (Improving Energy Efficiency in Commercial Buildings) at light + building. “Our administration building in Maribor reflects the integration aspect of energy efficiency merging smoothly with our air conditioning and ventilation installations,” added Dr Jürgen Röben, Managing Director of Menerga Apparatebau GmbH. “We see this award as further confirmation that we are on the right path and that we should redouble our commitment to high-efficiency air conditioning solutions.”
The award was conferred on the Slovenian sales partner to Menerga Germany in acknowledgement of both its administration building in Maribor and its commitment to realising many projects that focused on energy efficiency in plans for ventilation and air conditioning systems. The geographical alignment of the administration building in Maribor, the utilisation of daylight, needs-based shading, and the intelligent utilisation of passive energy sources are only a few examples that go to make the building in Maribor an example of maximum energy efficiency. Forming the basis of all available energy sources is an intelligent control strategy linked to all components.

This intelligent system alone helps to save about 30% of the energy of a conventional control system.
GreenBuilding is a project of Deutsche Energie Agentur Dena, funded by the Federal Ministry of Traffic, Building, and Urban Development and the European Commission Intelligent Energy, of which the latter initiated GreenBuilding in early 2005. The objective is the utilisation of economi-cal energy saving potential through information and motivation. GreenBuilding supports building owners with expert advice in the form of technical modules that list compact and transparent descriptions of energy efficiency potential in various engineering disciplines. In addition there are documents on subjects like financing, power management, and energy audits.
GreenBuilding is intended to motivate building owners and operators to recognise and utilise economical savings potential in nonresidential buildings. Only those measures are recommended whose efficiency and technical reliability have been adequately tried and tested.
As a proactive, supporting member Menerga d.o.o. has committed itself to a GreenBuilding promotion plan. Accordingly the company provides comprehensive information on the programme’s objectives, encourages owners and users of buildings to become partners as well, and helps to implement these recommendations as they are described in the programme’s relevant technical documentation. In a two-year pilot stage in 2005 and 2006 national contact sites for GreenBuilding were set up in ten EU member states whose objective is to assist interested building owners in participating in the GreenBuilding programme. This successful work has been continued in a second project stage – GreenBuildingPlus – from December 2007. In Germany there are a great many renowned companies, institutions, and universities taking part in the programme.
