inHaus2- Smart Building

Actors

The Fraunhofer inHaus Centre in Duisburg, Germany is an innovation workshop, conducting application-oriented research for intelligent room and building systems; the centre is unique in Europe and always strives to stay close to the market.

The inHaus Centre pools the strengths of several Fraunhofer institutes and more than 80 business partners in order to develop, test and implement innovative technologies, products and systems for residential and utility buildings.

Goals

Setting its focus on office and residential buildings as well as hotels, the inHaus Centre develops new room concepts, innovative building materials, intelligent building technologies and electronic devices to open new markets. Besides component, system and service innovations in order to optimize functions and processes of residential and utility buildings, the Centre takes aspects such as energy efficiency, conservation of resources, safety, design and environmental protection into account.

As these goals exactly correspond to the vision of our company, it was our desire to support the inHaus project of the Fraunhofer institute and contribute our own innovative technologies. Our desiccant cooling systems (air conditioning with low temperature heat), for example, use the heat of solar thermal units for the refrigeration of buildings, especially in times, when the recovered heat is not needed. Therefore, our technology utilizes the heat recovered in the summer in order to refrigerate buildings, which significantly increases the efficiency of solar-thermal systems.
